Job Purpose & Summary
The Investment Fund Representative is a wealth advisory role focused on building and managing member relationships while supporting portfolio growth through mutual fund sales and investment guidance. The role emphasizes proactive outreach, networking, and community engagement to identify opportunities and build trust with members. The successful candidate will manage a developing portfolio and provide investment recommendations while supporting members with their investment needs.

In addition to investment guidance, the role introduces members to foundational financial planning concepts such as goal setting, risk tolerance, time horizon, and basic portfolio alignment to support their long-term financial wellbeing. This position offers strong mentorship and professional development opportunities and serves as a pipeline role within the Wealth Department, supporting the development of advisory, planning, and relationship management capabilities for long-term career progression at HMECU.
 
Skill Requirements
Required Experience:
  • 1–3 years’ experience in financial services, sales, or a client-facing role (wealth experience not mandatory)
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Mutual Fund accreditation and licensing (required)
  • Demonstrated interest in pursuing additional licensing (including insurance)
  • Strong networking, relationship-building, and communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to grow a book of business
  • Ability to explain financial concepts clearly and support basic financial planning discussions with members
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Prior banking or credit union experience considered an asset
  • Must be bondable

What you’d be doing:
Under the supervision of the Wealth Supervisor, the duties and responsibilities of the Investment Funds Representative include, but are not limited to, the following:
 
Member Relationship Management
  • Build and develop a growing portfolio of member relationships through proactive outreach and networking
  • Conduct financial needs assessments and risk profiling for current and prospective members
  • Conduct regular portfolio reviews and maintain consistent member contact to ensure investments remain aligned with member objectives
  • Engage members in foundational financial planning discussions focused on goals, timelines, and long-term financial priorities

Investment Advice & Financial Planning
  • Provide investment advice focused primarily on mutual funds
  • Identify opportunities to introduce additional financial planning discussions such as retirement preparation, protection needs, and long-term savings strategies
  • Collaborate with senior advisors or internal specialists when more complex planning needs are identified

Business Development & Community Engagement
  • Actively pursue new business opportunities through referrals, follow-ups, and community engagement
  • Represent HMECU at community and employer group events to expand visibility and generate leads
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities across HMECU products and services

Team Collaboration & Professional Development
  • Collaborate with branch staff to deliver a seamless member experience
  • Participate in internal training and development initiatives to expand product knowledge and advisory capabilities
  • Work toward obtaining additional licensing (including insurance) to broaden service offerings and advice capabilities

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Compensation: Band 1 - $44,900.00 - $67,400.00
Other Compensation: Revenue Based Compensation following probationary period
